Where is my sweet boy?

October 2, 2023

Today was a very rough day, but it didn’t start that way. Because Jake has been congested for over a week now, I decided it wasn’t just a cold and time to see the doctor. The visit went smoothly and both boys did great. Jake has a sinus infection. Poor fella.

We head to McDonald’s drive thru for sausage McGriddles and hash browns. Once at home, I start cleaning and washing clothes. The boys were keeping themselves occupied. Jake was watching dinosaur train and Jesse was playing in the iPad.

When it was time to go get Jake’s med, I decided to run by Lowe’s for light bulbs. We’ve gone there several times before with very little issue. Today was a different story. He started acting up in the parking lot, but I encouraged him that we would be quick. We get in the door and he starts pulling against me. He raised his hand like he wanted to hit me and lightly touched my face. I looked him in the eye and firmly told him no. He screamed “no! Shut up!” I told him “no sir, we do not act like that.” He started repeating shut up softly under his breath, almost Tourette’s like.

Imagine that scenario over and over as I try to get Jake to the light bulb aisle. I ended up crying in frustration right there in the middle of the store. I had Jake sit in time out behind me as I look for what I needed. I found what I needed and we made our way to the check out. As we are heading to the car, I told Jake that he hurt me. He said, “I’m sorry, mama.”

Once everyone was safely inside with the door shut, I cried. Jake kept repeating, “sorry, mama.” Jake is only two inches shorter and ten pounds lighter than me and not yet 12. What am I going to do when he is bigger than me? We terribly need ABA therapy.

Once we got home, I rubbed Vetiver on the back of both boys’ neck. I also found a “calming” diffuser blend on Pinterest. An hour later, the boys were calm, the dog was calm, the cat was calm, and I was calm. ♥️ The rest of the evening was pretty good. #essentialoilsforthewin
